    I would have asked Professor Eichengreen his thoughts on resurrecting the original full reserve bank, the Bank of Amsterdam, as a public bank that held the deposit of gold and silver coinage, issuing certificates of deposit as the circulating paper currency. Such a public bank would not have lending powers, except for any coinage they took in as few income and represented bank assets. Depositors with the public bank could, if they acquired a charter, set themselves up as lending institutions. Would this not solve the basic problem of monetary inflation?

    The Fed itself claims that part of its job is to keep inflation in check. This is something like the tobacco industry claiming that it is trying to stop smoking or the automobile industry claiming that it is trying to control road congestion. The Fed is in the business of generating inflation. Inflation - an artificial increase in the supply of money and credit - the entire reason for Fed's existence is to generate more, not less of it.

    At about 2:12 in, there is a map of the Federal Reserve Banks. It seems to have a dot for Washington, which has not Federal Reserve Bank, but leaves out either St. Louis or Kansas City. Also, there is no mention of the new tool of the Fed, the ability to pay interest on reserves. But perhaps that was deemed too technical.

  • @prayfortruejustice

    Audit the Fed. Allow competing currencies by making them legal and convertible to FRNs to pay taxes. Allow competing metal based currencies - to shut up the gold and silver bugs. Cancel all debt the US government owns to the FED. Eliminate interest on loans to the US government through the Federal Reserve System (even the secondary markets). cont'd

  • @prayfortruejustice
    @prayfortruejustice 14 лет назад

    cont'd... Require 75% reserves. Required audited mark-to-market balance sheets. Keep the state chartered banks to process checks - make state loans, reapplying the interest into the state general fund- pay the bank a resonable fee for this. Abolish the IRS and the illegal income tax. Then as good money drives out bad and all FRNs become worthless... END THE FED

    But why is the New York bank granted special privileges? It gets to vote at every meeting but the others have to take turns? Thats not fair!

  • @Capitalocracy
    @Capitalocracy 14 лет назад

    "Having 12 independent federal reserve banks located from coast to coast ensures that the economic realities from all across the land are represented when monetary policy is being considered. It also guards against too much power being concentrated in a single location in a single city." Except New York, which has a permanent vote on the board for reasons unknown.

  • @craigtheplague
    @craigtheplague 14 лет назад

    They also missed the part that the money is created out of thin air and has to be paid back with interest rendering it impossible to pay the debt because there is always more money owed than in circulation.

    The Federal Reserve is responsible for bubbles and creating depressions. They hold the monopoly of counterfeiting new US dollars. They loan this new money to big banks or gov't. The people who spend the new money will obtain wealth at yesterday's prices before they rise due to weaker dollar purchasing power. Therefore, wealth is transferred from dollar holders to big banks and gov't cronies who spend the new money. The people now understand your wealth redistribution scheme. End the Fed.

    What about the Fed letting Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley become overnight bank holding companies during the meltdown, so they could get access to the nearly free money at the Reserve? Money which they now use for proprietary trading, not lending. Care to mention that in your next low-tech slide show?

    I think they failed to mention that the Federal Reserve is a private bank, unconstitutional, and the greatest threat to the US according to Thomas Jefferson "If the America people ever allow private banks to control the issuance of their currencies, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their prosperity until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."
